Lesson · Word 9

Vulnerability

Vulnerability is not weakness. It is the courage to be seen as you are, without armour, without pretence, knowing you might be rejected, hurt, or misunderstood.

Most people avoid vulnerability. We construct personas designed to impress, deflect criticism, maintain control. We share what makes us look good and hide what makes us look human. We perform strength and hide struggle.

This creates isolation. When you show only your polished exterior, people can admire you but not truly know you. When you hide your struggles, others assume you have none and hide theirs in return. Everyone performs invincibility while secretly feeling inadequate.

"What are you hiding — from others, or from yourself — that if you admitted it openly, might actually bring you closer to the people and life you want?"
