Guides

We all carry people inside us. Not literally, but close enough — there is a voice that sounds like your father's, a patience that reminds you of someone who waited for you once when no one else did. There is a teacher whose exact phrasing you have never forgotten, and a stranger whose courage, witnessed briefly, lodged itself somewhere permanent.

These presences do not leave. They become part of how you move through difficulty.

This is what guides are: people, real or imagined, living or long dead, whose way of being illuminates your own. They are not models to imitate exactly — imitation is shallow and brittle. They are lenses. When you hold a decision or a challenge up to a guide's perspective, you see differently. You borrow their angle without surrendering your own.

"Who keeps showing up in your mind when things get difficult — and what does that person see in you that you might not be seeing in yourself?"
