Lesson · Word 2
Know
To know yourself is the foundation of wisdom. It is understanding your patterns—what triggers you, what motivates you, what you value, what you fear, how you react under pressure, where you tend to deceive yourself.
Most people go through life on autopilot, reacting to circumstances without understanding why they react that way. They repeat the same patterns, make the same mistakes, wonder why different situations produce the same outcomes. But the situations are not the same—you are the same, bringing the same unexamined patterns to each new experience.
Self-knowledge requires honest introspection. It means looking at yourself objectively, without the usual defenses and justifications. It means acknowledging uncomfortable truths—that you are sometimes lazy, sometimes selfish, sometimes afraid, sometimes dishonest with yourself.
"What do you know to be true for yourself that you have stopped questioning, and should you?"
